Introduction Course 1 introduces the basics of climate change adaptation and climate change technologies under the EU Cities Missions. Module 1 provides an overview of key concepts such as climate and the greenhouse gas effect. Module 2 looks at the human contribution to climate change and provides an overview of important greenhouse gases and their main sources. Module 3 presents an introduction to the scope of Kozani’s Pilot Cities programme under the NetZeroCities EU Cities Mission. The module concludes with an overview of main sources of scientific climate information, relevant programmes and institutions. Who is this course for? Although intended as an introduction for professionals, to help them identify the new skills required for climate adaptation technologies, this course is also suitable for students and early career professionals who want to know more about the EU Cities Mission and related technologies for climate neutrality. Entry requirements There are no formal entry requirements for this course. Learning Objectives After completing Course 1, participants will be able to: • Explain the basic concepts of climate change science and climate adaptation technologies. • Identify the anthropogenic drivers of climate change. • Explain observed and projected trends and impacts in the climate. • Analyze different climate change neutrality scenarios and their implications. Net Zero Cities Mission Accreditations Participants after the completion of the course will receive a Certificate of Attendance.
