Introduction: For reaching the EU’s climate goals the space heating sector is of exceptionally high relevance. approximately 75% of the heat demand is covered from fossil fuels and around 60% of the overall heat demand is consumed in buildings. These numbers illustrate that decarbonising the space heating sector is a crucial factor for reaching greenhouse gas neutrality in the EU by 2050 or EU Cities Mission goal for net-zero by 2030. The course provides an understanding of how best develop a net-zero building heating sector context, raising awareness of the technical, social, and economic challenges that need to be overcome at local level in transitioning to zero carbon. Who is this course for? Although intended as an introduction for professionals, to help them identify the new skills required for Zero Carbon, this course is also suitable for students and early career professionals who want to know more about the future of building heating sector and innovative technologies such as green district heating solutions. Entry requirements: There are no formal entry requirements for this course. Structure: This introductory course is delivered over three weeks covering the following topics: 1. Introduction to Climate Change Science 2. Anthropogenic Drivers of Climate Change 3. Observed Trends and Impacts of Climate Adaptation Technologies Accreditations: Participants after the completion of the course will receive a Certificate of Attendance.
